Imperial Princess Ohara (大原内親王)
Imperial Princess Ohara (year of birth unknown - February 14, 863) was a member of the Imperial Family during the first half of the Heian period. Ise Saigu (vestal virgin princess serving at Ise-jingu Shrine). She was a princess of Emperor Heizei, and her mother was a court lady, zo jusanmi (Junior Third Rank, posthumously conferred), ISE no Tsugiko (daughter of Shoshiinoge (Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade) Mokuryo (Bureau of Carpentry) ISE no Okina). Imperial Prince Takaoka, Imperial Prince Kose, Imperial Princess Kamitsukeno, Imperial Princess Isonokami were her siblings by the same mother.
On December 30, 806, she was designated as Saigu (Imperial Princess appointed to serve the deities of the Ise-jingu Shrine) for her father, Emperor Heizei by bokujo (decided by fortunetelling), and entered Nonomiya (Field Palace) on October 3, 807, the following year. On October 1, 808, she went to Ise for Gunko (three years of purification for Saigu at Nonomiya) and then returned to Ise. On May 22, 809, she resigned when her father, Emperor Heizei abdicated from the throne. In 810, she was granted eight hundred koku (measure, unit of volume, about 180 liters) of crops in Omi Province, Harima Province, and Bizen Province by her uncle, Emperor Saga. On February 14, 863, she passed away during the reign of Emperor Seiwa (great-grandchild of Emperor Saga), and she was muhon (without a court rank) at that time.
